Dead Letter

It all started with a very rough, spontaneous watercolor sketch. I loved the mood so much that I felt compelled to bring it to life in 3D.

That final render involved blocking in Blender and detailed sculpting of the wood and iron in ZBrush. The mailbox textures are hand painted in Substance Painter. Sunflowers were hand painted using the Ucupaint addon on Blender.

Every project begins with a sketch, a concept or a painting. This initial loose drawing was created using ink and watercolor.

A breakdown showing the solid view, grease pencil integration, wireframe and the final render.

The blocking phase for the mailbox was simple. I kept the wooden planks as separate meshes to ensure I could sculpt and texture each one with unique character.

A close up of the mailbox sculpt. Since hand painting and grease pencil tend to flattend depth, I tried to keep the details bold rather than subtle. It was a half successful !
